Official Evo X Track Times

Based on frequently asked questions by fellow enthusiasts, I’ve compiled an official track times list for Evo Xs to serve as a reference for those in search of answers. These laptimes were obtained from the race organizers or from motorsport magazine listings, hence are official. Other related details come from the drivers directly can remain only as claims until verified by data.

I’m also hoping this list will motivate those interested to start joining the Time Attacks since it is categorized, and it correlates laptimes to tire types. If any errors have been made or any other matters, please post here or PM me to clarify. For several reasons, timings above 3mins are not reflected in the list.

The format for the list is: Position / Laptime / Driver Name [SGevo Nick] / Version / Event

Circuit: Sepang International Circuit

Slicks Class

None

Semi Slicks Class

1. 2:27.98 - Lester Wong / GSR 5MT / 2010’Apr MPT SuperLap
2. 2:30.45 – Kelvin Teo [Protégé] / GSR 5MT / 2009’Sep MPT Time Attack
3. 2:32.08 - Mohd Yusoff [Mod13] / SST / 2010 Dec MPT Superlap

5. 2:36.26 – Stephen Tan [Stephen-San] / GSR 5MT / 2010’Apr MPT SuperLap
6. 2:38.23 – Jeffrey Tan [Wildarms] / GSR 5MT / 2009’Nov MPT Time Attack
7. 2:40.78 – Maverick Lim [Mave7221] / SST / 2010'Oct MPT SuperLap
8. 2:43.15 – Raymond Lee / SST / 2010'Oct MPT SuperLap

Street Tires Class

1. 2:37.94 – Kuvesh Pather [kuvesh] / SST / 2010’Apr MPT SuperLap
2. 2:42.53 – Eugene See [Count Dookoo] / GSR 5MT / 2009’Dec MPT Time Attack
3. 2:42.70 - Koo Dat Way [Rei] / GSR 5MT / 2009’Dec MPT Time Attack

6. 2:53.70 – Edwin Foo / SST / 2009’Dec MPT Time Attack
7. 2:54.71 – Gary Suet / GSR 5MT / 2009’Dec MPT Time Attack
8. 2:55.34 – Nick Han / GSR / 2010'Oct MPT SuperLap

As for frequently asked questions on topics such as power and other mod factors; I will let the folks who are in the list to provide more information if they are comfortable to.

Suggested format: Laptime / Driver Name [SGevo name] / Version / Event / Turbo type / Damper type / Tires / Data: Yes or No / Data share: Yes or No. More info will certainly be useful for highly modified cars, such as car weight: Real or Estimated / Estimated or dyno measured power level etc…

bro, side track a bit...
What's the main different between Tein SR n monoflex??
Is it better to buy suspension with canlister??
Can u set the settings yourself or need experts to do it??

Stunning times on some of those runs! Congrats guys and thanks for the info.

Thanks very much for compiling Protege. Interesting stuff! Could we get a data dump on the forum of some of your Racelogic data historically to see lines etc? That would be awesome for those of us still learning the track.

Alan… official track times refer to the race times because the races have certain levels of enforced controls. Practices however, are usually not controlled - for example, car can be driven by another driver instead of the registered driver during practices. I myself have done that before too  So in an effort to eliminate any opportunity from that sort of errors, lets use the race times.

Harold… out of interest before, I’ve worked on data for friends like Jeffrey & Stephen (semi slicks class) amongst others, spent at least an hour studying, and then another 45 mins – 1 hour with them discussing with them my thoughts & driving principles based on their data. From there, I saw an average of 4 secs drop from those guys. I can tell you mate, when working on driving/data, it’s really not just about lines !

*************************

For folks who are seeking to learn or improve their driving, data analysis or driver coaching, Shaun from Ascendant Motorsport is the specialist, and offering this service.

Personally, my engagement with him not only improved my understanding and also improved the car’s feel. The data he acquired and translated for me, gave me definite answers, and many confirmations on things I questioned or wondered about before.

The changes suggested by him, on both car setup and driver inputs, allowed me to throttle more than before and the rotation at entry was better. I only enlisted his help this year, so these improvements actually happened after I ran 2:30 in 2009. Despite having data to show improvements in sector times, it was also unfortunate that I couldn't realize a better laptime due to traffic and tire bulge issues during my first session with him.

So based on personal experience, I’m absolutely certain that Ascendant can certainly help those seeking to improve their track driving.

Check it out here - http://www.ascendant-motorsport.com/driver.html

Cheers

Kelvin, just got my data using the porker at the Maximus track day. Will pass you the data mate and lets have a beer to chat about it :).

By the way.... found out that the Hoosier R6's are actually classified as semi slick mate based on wear rating and as should by definition be allowed to be used at Time to Attack??? If so mate, you will really want to give them a shot. Absolutely stunning tires!!!

Absolutely mate, my turn to buy !

Ah yes the Hoosiers, brainchild of someone at their factory who wanted to see how straight he could cut 3 lines ! & adding more threadwear rating (80 iirc), it was termed as semi slicks. I'm sure those tires performs extremely well ! Hahaa !

For the 2 main Time Attack organisers in the US, one approves it, one dosent. It was also not an approved tire in World Time Attack Challenge this year. In some national Touring Car series here in Asia which uses semi slicks, users also faced protests and those tires were eventually banned in many semi slicks class.

IMO these maybe risky tires to use, very controversial design and without clear indications, you may get protested, disqualified or bumped up to Slicks/Track Car classes at the TA races.

hahaha... classic comment mate on the straight lines. You got a laugh out of me! Bugger, I thought that the guys at Hoots had thought it out sufficiently to ensure that the tires would be covered as semi's. Maybe practice cutting some zig zag lines on it for good measure.

Congratulations Maverick and Rei !!! It's really exciting me to see our X community times improving as X-pected with everyone getting faster within a short period of time ! *Woot!*

Mave, you actually shaved 17 secs in 10 months !!! (perhaps 2-3 trips within this time?) Awesome Stuff !!! I have received the official results from MPT, & made the addons accordingly.

Rei ! Fantastic lead timing, especially when you are on street tires with the rest of the chasing pack on semi slicks ! Stunning bro ! But please send me the RCA official race times as we are not using practice times for the Official Track times post.

Hi Kelvin ,
Thank you for your encouragement . That 17 secs was shaved after 5 trips actually. Every trip I encountered issues that prevented me from pushing 100% . SST overheated lean mode, brakes fluid overflowed then steering wheel vibrates, tried ASC full off went off track to fried chestnuts hahaha etc etc . But it was a learning curve I enjoyed tremendously. Still have issues like brakes fading and fuel surge to solve. 2.40 wasn't possible without my si fu Jeff's help. See ya on Dec 13th . Kopi soon .

Hi Kelvin ,

I did 2.47.728 using AD07 street-use tires on RCA open track day on 22nd May 2010.
Just asked RCA for an official race time sheet. Henry Tang gave me the below attached sheet .
Seems all open track event from RCA only comes in below format as practise times eventhough we are using the official Sepang transponder.

Is MPT Time Attack , now known as Super Lap , the only recognised official track time ?

Maverick its explained clearly above already leh... we use the race times because its controlled (see my reply to Alan above).

Doesn't have to be MPT, can be the from any organizers. It just happen that MPT has created many events for our fraternity, & many good times were produced during their events.

If I had realize a better timing in July during the ZeroToHundred Time Attack, then I would have state that its that organizer's event.
